CAD and Drawing Quote-Readiness Checklist
Check CAD models, fabrication drawings, revisions, units, tolerances, materials, finishes, and missing manufacturing information before estimating.

What this resource is for
A file opening successfully does not mean it contains a complete manufacturing basis. Quote readiness depends on document agreement, units, revision, material, tolerances, finish, quantity, and the processes needed to make and inspect the work.
This checklist helps the reviewer distinguish visible geometry from commercial and manufacturing information that still needs confirmation.
Designed for: Estimators reviewing STEP, DXF, DWG, PDF, and related manufacturing files before quote preparation.
What is included
- file and revision register
- model and drawing agreement checks
- units and scale checks
- material and finish prompts
- tolerance and inspection prompts
- manufacturing information gaps
- clarification owner and status
Fields and review points
How to use it
Register each controlling file
List models, drawings, specifications, spreadsheets, and addenda. Identify which source controls when files disagree.
Review quote-critical manufacturing information
Check units, material, thickness or stock form, tolerances, threads, finish, weld symbols, inspection, and quantity. Record missing information explicitly.
Resolve or qualify the gap
Request clarification, use an approved provisional basis, state an exclusion, or decline to price the affected scope. Preserve the decision with the RFQ.
Important review boundaries
- Visual review is not design verification or engineering approval.
- Do not infer tolerances, materials, or units from appearance alone.
- Check the current revision again when an addendum arrives.
Questions about this resource
Does this checklist validate CAD geometry?
No. It structures an estimator’s quote-readiness review. Geometry validation, design approval, manufacturability analysis, and production programming require the appropriate tools and qualified review.
What if the model and PDF disagree?
Record the conflict and ask which source controls. Do not silently choose the more convenient value.
